Making Stickers 101
Skill Level: Beginner
Looking to decorate a beloved water bottle? Or maybe personalize the back of your laptop? Making stickers is a fun, easy and customizable option for decorating anything you want! Turn your ideas into sticky art, choosing from either our Cricut gallery or your own design!
Using our Cricut, this project is perfect for small businesses, teens, adults and anyone who feels like getting creative!
If you’re new to the Makerspace or a regular visitor, you’re bound to find something for you with stickers!
What You'll Need
- Cricut Maker
- Sticker Paper
- HP Inkjet Printer
- A design
- Makerspace laptop
Step 1
Click on the app in the taskbar labeled “Cricut Design Space”. Turn to the Cricut and click the “Power” button circled in red.
Step 2
Now in the Cricut Design app, click on the green button “+ New Project”
Step 3
Click on “Stickers & Labels”, then “Custom Stickers” and click the green button labeled “Start Designing”
Step 4
Select the “Images” icon in the tool bar, then type in your design into the search bar.
*If looking to create a Custom Sticker, stop in and ask a librarian for alternative steps!*
Step 5
Click on the “Die Cut” Sticker Style option! To resize your sticker, select your sticker and resize to your liking using the resizing box surrounding your design.
*If looking for another look, ask a librarian about alternative options*
Step 6
To have more than one sticker, select your sticker and click on the three dots directly underneath your sticker. Click on the “Duplicate” option, and fill your page by clicking “Duplicate” more than once!
Arrange your stickers to fit within the page, and make sure your design stays within the page limit! Once finished, click the green “Make” button!
Step 7
Make sure the Material Size is set to: 8.5 in x 11 in (Letter) and your sticker designs are within the guidelines! Once completed, click the green “Continue Button”.
Click “next” after reviewing the “sensor marks added” page.
Afterwards, click the green “Send to Printer” button
Step 8
Take a look around our Makerspace and see the color coded sheet for “Cricut”. Follow the GREEN squares to the PRINTABLE STICKER PAPER drawer, grabbing our 8.5in x 11in (letter) Matte Sticker paper. Make sure to grab the sticker paper and insert it the same direction it was placed inside the box
Step 9
Refer to our HP Inkjet Printer with the GREEN square. Insert the Sticker Paper into the paper opening of the printer.
Step 10
Refer back to the computer and make sure your design is set to the “HP947972 (HP Smart Tank 5100 Series)” and click the green “Print” button. Click the “next” button!
Watch your design print!
Step 11
After printing, refer back to our Makerspace Laptop and click the “Printable Sticker Paper, White (Gray Liner Printing)”
Once complete, make sure the Kiss Cut Pressure and Die Cut Pressure is set to “Default”
Step 12
Lower the Cricut drawer labeled in the green dot.
Reach for a sticky Cricut mat located next to the Cricut and remove the protective clear film. Once removed, line up your printed design into the far lefthand corner, making sure all corners align.
After your design is lined up, insert the mat and design into the Cricut, making sure the mat is underneath the mat inserts circled in red.
Step 13
Once your design in inserted, look “Load” Button circled in blue. Once it starts blinking, press the button! Once the “Go” button circled in pink starts blinking, press that too!
Step 14
After the Cricut is done, press the “Load” button once more. Remove the excess sticker paper and remove your stickers (hint: curve the Cricut mat for easier removal)
Put things away how you found them, and enjoy your brand new sticker!
